Methodist alumni celebrate reunion of 1956-57 batch

HYDERABAD: Of course, a reunion with classmates after 51 years would mean nostalgia, emotion and ecstasy to heart. All that was showcased at the reunion meet of the Class X, 1956-57 batch of the Methodist Boys High School held in a restaurant here on Monday.

“Our batch had got not only good number of first classes, but also a strong bond,” said R. Ramachander, a retired deputy general manager at BHEL. He was instrumental in keeping the association of his batch alive.

“We have a core group of eight members. We meet every month and now we have arranged special meet on the occasion of our batch reunion,” said Mr. Ramachander.

Bonding

Testifying the bond, Augustine Moses, a batchmate, flew down from Chicago to meet his classmates.

Ms. George, B. John, Premiah and J.B. Parker, some of the erstwhile teachers were also present on this occasion.

The old students were excited to see them and tried re-introducing themselves.

They spent a good amount of time reminiscing the good, old days at school. Brig. Sivarama Krishna, who took part in the 1971 Bangladesh operation, recalled that it was the patriotic poems taught by Hindi teacher Mr. Parker, that motivated him to join the Army.

Instant wit ruled the re-union and participants burst into laughter when M. Purender Reddy said, he passed Class X because he had copied mathematics paper from his friend C.H. Krishna. “But Krishna had got 60 and I secured 85 marks!” he quipped.

However, the present condition of the school saddened the gathering. Some of the students and teachers wept while they recalled its past glory. The Methodist Boys High School at Abids is almost on the verge of closure.
