WARANGAL: The Telugu Desam Party has taken strong objection to the statements issued by Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy on the death of a farmer in the district.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, TDP legislator Kadiam Srihari described the statements as irresponsible and uncalled for. The farmer was compelled to come from his Sripatipalli village only to procure fertilizer at Station Ghanpur. There was a severe shortage of fertilizer in the district and farmers, even in the constituencies represented by Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah, were agitating. The Ministers were also blaming the Opposition parties accusing them of gaining political mileage, which was not true. “Let Mr. Ponnala Lakshmaiah convene an all-party meeting and review the fertilizer supplies in the district. The facts will come out then,” Mr. Srihari challenged.

The government should immediately take steps to tackle the short supply of fertilizer. The TDP would mobilise the farmers and intensify the agitation for fertilizer if the government failed to bring the situation under control forthwith, he added.
