VISAKHAPATNAM: The Passport Office here has reduced the time taken for issue of fresh passports from 59 days to 39 days when the applications are submitted directly to it and to 43 days when the applications are submitted through the District Passport Cells and Speed Post Centres.

This was possible in cases where police verification was being done expeditiously. In other cases, the passports were being issued within 10 working days of receiving positive report from the police, Acting Passport Officer V.S.D.L. Surendra informed here on Wednesday.

The Passport Office would conduct a public grievance redressal exercise from 3 p.m. every day to clear applications pending for more than three months.
