Protest against delay in Indiramma project

Kakinada: Kakinada RDO G.C. Kishore Kumar was confined to his office here for about an hour by CPI activists in protest against the delay in construction of houses under Indiramma scheme at Kovvur village in Kakinada rural mandal on Tuesday.

Scores of activists and villagers reached the RDO office in the morning and suddenly locked the RDO inside.

Attempts by the subordinate staff to free him failed as the agitators demanded immediate redress of their grievance.

They ignored the warnings of the police.

The Left party’s contention was that sanctioning of pattas and construction of houses in four out of eight acres allotted for the purpose was delayed and the officials appeared to be not concerned with their plight despite repeated pleas.

The RDO negotiated with the agitators from inside and insisted that he could not act in haste as certain procedures were to be followed.

After much persuasion and assurances by the RDO to look into the matter, the agitators opened the doors, relieving the RDO and others from anxiety.

The police who were present there maintained restraint while the RDO was holding parleys to prevent the tempers from flaying further. The police stood guard till the crowd completely dispersed as the situation was hostile.
