VIZIANAGARAM: Police intercepted a truck at Venkammapeta under Parvathipuram rural police station limits on Monday and seized huge quantity of explosive material that was being transported from a dealer in Ponduru in Srikakulam district to Similiguda in Koraput district in Orissa and arrested four persons – K. Bhaskara Reddy and J. Venkata Ramana Murthy (both drivers), Sunkari Appala Naidu and Penta Lakshmi Naidu (both brokers in explosive material).

When contacted Parvathipuram Sub-Divisional Police Officer B. Sudershana Rao said, on a tip-off the police seized the truck that contained 16 boxes of gelatin sticks, seven boxes of fuse wire, 4,000 electrical and 3000 non-electrical detonators. The SDPO said that the drivers and the brokers diverted the truck for handing over the material illegally to contractors executing Jhanjhavati canal works at Venkammapeta and Marikavalasa villages in the district and they did not have the records and licence. They were remanded to custody.
