HYDERABAD: A businessman Mujeeb Quadri, who was allegedly kidnapped by a gang of four persons from Azampura, was rescued by the Chaderghat police on Tuesday.

While three of the abductors were identified as Iqbal, Rahman and Hameed, the police are suspecting that the fourth was Rasheed, a police constable attached to the office of Mirchowk ACP. “We’re verifying reports that Rasheed too was involved in the kidnap and are probing if the Mirchowk ACP is connected to the incident in any way,” the East Zone DCP T. Prabhakar Rao said.

Police alerted

Quadri was intercepted by the abductors at Azampura around 6.30 p.m. when he went to his relative’s house. The strangers dragged him into a Maruti Swift car and drove away. The businessman’s friend Srikanth, who was present there, alerted the Chaderghat police. A hunt was launched by the police and within hours, they rescued Quadri while he was being taken to a secluded place in a car being driven by Iqbal.

Police said Iqbal had a land dispute with Quadri and had been pressurising the latter to settle the deal in his favour. Hunt was on for the absconding Rahman and Hameed.
