The accused person walks into police station along with the severed head and knife

VIJAYAWADA: In a gruesome incident, a man, who suspected the fidelity of his wife, killed her and later beheaded her before surrendering in the police station along with the severed head and the knife he used, in the early hours of Friday.

Shocking incident

The incident shocked the man’s 55-year-old father Ramudu, who died of heart attack at his residence in Pedasanagallu village of Movva mandal.

Avanigadda Deputy Superintendent of Police P. George said Veeranki Venkata Ramana (32) confessed to killing his wife Lakshmi (27), a mother of two children, in the open fields of Ayyanki village late on Thursday night, as he believed that she continued to be disloyal to him despite his many warnings. The Kuchipudi police registered a case under Sections 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) and 302 (murder) of the IPC.

According to information culled out from various sources, including the police, Venkata Ramana, who originally hails from Pedasanagallu village in Movva mandal, is working as an operation theatre assistant in a private hospital here. He married Lakshmi of Gosala village near here nine years ago and the couple have a seven-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl. They were living in Penamaluru.

Marital discord

Venkata Ramana has been suspecting his wife’s character for the last two years, and warned her on more than one occasion. On July 2, he left his wife at her parents’ house in Gosala even as children stayed back with grand parents in Pedasanagallu.

On July 3, Lakshmi’s grandmother and an aunt, both from Gosala, visited Pedasanagallu to find out the marital discord.

Following their advice that he should try to counsel his wife instead of leaving her once and for all, Venkata Ramana reached Gosala around 3 p.m. and picked her up, telling her that the matter should be settled in the presence of elders. After reaching Kankipadu bus station, Venkata Ramana purchased a kitchen knife and a small bottle of liquor.

The couple boarded a bus going towards Avanigadda and got down at Ayyanki around 10 p.m. for walking to Pedasanagallu.

After they reached the farm fields on the outskirts of the village, Venkata Ramana consumed liquor and stifled her to death.

He then beheaded her and kept the severed head and the knife in a gunny bag.

Venkata Ramana walked into the Kuchipudi police station around 3.30 a.m. on Friday and handed over the bag before confessing to his crime.
