Work on Lakdikapul-Sarojini Devi Eye hospital begins with demolition of Hotel Ayodhya
HYDERABAD: After a lull due to bypolls, GHMC wants to go full steam ahead on road widening on different stretches of the twin cities.
Work on the busy Lakdikapul-Sarojini Devi Eye hospital has begun with demolition of Hotel Ayodhya having started few days ago and there are about 130 plus properties on the road. Hundred more properties remain to be acquired on the Punjagutta-Erragadda road and work to form the 150 ft carriageway is expected to be completed in the next two months. Road No.1 Jubilee Hills to Filmnagar up to Rama Naidu studios and Minister’s Quarters road from No.1 to 12 are on the anvil. Another important road connecting Jubilee Hills with Gachibowli road (old Mumbai highway) through Bhagyalaxmi Colony is being developed from about 60 ft to 120 ft.
It is estimated to cost about Rs. 19 crore and administrative sanction has been accorded. A new road towards Quli Qutub Shahi tombs across the Gachibowli road is to be developed at a cost of Rs. 6.5 crore and tenders are expected to be finalised soon, said Additional Commissioner (Planning & Projects) K. Dhananjaya Reddy.
With the Inner Ring Road in Secunderabad, apart from the contentious railway properties, 100 more properties are yet to be acquired between Mettuguda and Aramghar. Forty properties remain between Bandlaguda and Aramghar with 30 taken by consent. The plan to widen Barkas road at Chandrayanagutta crossroads providing an alternate road to the new airport from the Srisailam road route is on with notices issued to 190 properties.
Apart from these, one to two roads are being taken up in each municipal circle, prominent being the Safilguda station to SCR’s Zonal Training College road. GHMC might be having a running battle with SCR over widening the Tarnaka road but both have come to an undertaking to construct road under bridges at five different places wherever railway tracks pass overhead.
These include spots at M.G. Road, near Rail Nilayam, Lakidikapul, Minister’s Road and Chaderghat.
