Heavy rush despite negative campaigning

HYDERABAD: Administration of the renowned fish medicine by Bathini family got underway on Saturday evening at Exhibition Grounds amidst tight security.

Despite negative campaigning by several organisations, firm believers and the faithful turned up in droves, mostly from outside the State, for the medicine on Mrigasira Karthi, which heralds the onset of monsoons in the State.

Slight delay

Although the administration of the fish medicine was scheduled to start at 7.22 p.m., it got delayed by 10 minutes, even as Secunderabad Congress MP Anjan Kumar Yadav and State BJP president Bandaru Dattatreya waited for the Bathini family to show up at the venue.

Till late Saturday 9 p.m., going by the sale of the fingerlings, around 7,000 Asthma patients were administered the medicine. The administration process would continue throughout Sunday till 7.22 p.m., informed Bathini Harinath Goud.

Hundreds of families from far-off places like Dharvad, Maharashtra, Kolhapur, Rajasthan, Orissa, West Bengal and even New Delhi attended the camp. “We had been taking this medicine for the last four years. It’s definitely showing results,” says Arunal Raja, who came all the way from Chattisgarh for the prasadam.

Mr. Harinath Goud informed that the medicine would also be distributed at their residence at Doodh Bowli and Kavadiguda for those who have missed out on Sunday. The senior member of the Bathini family said that he was expecting about six lakh Asthma patients to make use of the fish medicine.

Police personnel, who are familiar with the bandobust, however, pointed out that they are expecting around 40,000 persons to visit Exhibition Grounds for the fish medicine by Sunday.

“There has been a lot of negative campaigning going on against the fish medicine. Public have faith and that’s why they keep coming to us,” said Bathini Harinath Goud.
