GUNTUR: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and AICC general secretary Veerappa Moily denied that there was any thinking in the ruling party on advancing the general elections either for Lok Sabha or the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly in the wake of the results in the byelections in Telangana.

The victory of the Congress was in recognition of the development it had carried out in Telangana and none of the decisions announced in recent times were aimed at any of the elections, but was in general for the welfare of farmers and the poorer sections of society, Dr. Reddy told reporters at a press conference here on Friday.

There was no need to advance the elections, he said and this opinion was supported by Mr. Moily, who congratulated the Chief Minister for taking up several people-friendly measures. “Andhra Pradesh Government was in the forefront in bearing the additional burden on the poorer sections of society for buying LPG, which was being replicated by other Governments also,” Mr. Moily added.
