District administration issues gazette publication to name the district after Potti Sriramulu
NELLORE: Nellore district will be known as Sri Potti Sriramulu (SPSR) Nellore district from June 4 officially with the district administration issuing a gazette publication, the final official formality, here on Wednesday to name the district after Potti Sriramulu.
It may be recalled that the State government issued an order, G.O. Ms. No. 676, on May 22. Subsequently gazette notification was also issued after seven days to fulfil long pending demand from a cross section of people.
Accordingly, the district administration too has geared up to issue a gazette publication. Besides, the official machinery has started works with regard to changing name plates in all offices in the district head quarter as well as mandal and village levels.
Orders were issued to all Central and State government offices to incorporate changes as per the government’s order. Besides, officials concerned have been asked to change the district name in all notice boards at the railway station, bus stations, mandal and panchayat offices.
At the same time, the district administration will also conduct awareness campaign to sensitise the general public on the new development across the district through different modes.
Hence the name Nellore which is believed to have been derived from the Tamil “Nell” (paddy) and “Ore” (town), will now have a prefix of Sri Potti Sriramulu from June 4.
