ANANTAPUR: The Vigilance and Monitoring Committee on SC and ST Atrocities has directed the district administration to launch a campaign on the eradication of discrimination in the name of caste and untouchability with the help of folk art forms and to set up a special cell for extending assistance to the victims of atrocities without delay.
It was also suggested in the meeting held here on Wednesday that the mandal Tahsildar and the Sub-Inspector of Police concerned should take up a joint visit of villages once in a month and take measures for resolving the problems, if any. District Collector N. Sridhar, who chaired the committee meeting, warned of serious action against those committing the atrocities on SCs and STs.
The meeting further decided to provide a vehicle for the visit of the committee to villages on regular basis. The Collector directed the police and social welfare department officials to take stern measures as per the law against those committing atrocities and attacks on Dalits and tribals.
The Collector assured the committee members that the administration would provide a vehicle for their visit to villages for 10 days every month.
A special cell would be formed in the social welfare DD’s office to attend to the cases of atrocities.
It was also decided to give preference to the victims in implementation of SC, ST action plans and to avoid the delay in extending assistance from ICDS. Members of the committee Kakkappa, Adinarayana, Keshava Naik, J. Premachand, Virupakshamma, Bhanuja and Y.V. Malla Reddy also spoke.
