Union Minister of Railways expected for ‘Bhoomi Puja’
TIRUPATI: The foundation stone for the ‘World Class railway station’ in Tirupati is expected to be laid in less than 100 days. Union Minister of Railways Lalu Prasad, who got Tirupati included in the list of railway stations to be developed on international standards and even announced the same in the Parliament, is expected to arrive here for the ‘Bhumi Puja’.
The temple city has been selected for mega development along with New Delhi, Mumbai, Secunderabad and Patna among other stations. While the task of upgrading New Delhi station has been awarded to a Hong Kong-based infrastructure development firm, works pertaining to the others are yet to be finalized.
The process is expected to decongest the existing Tirupati East railway station, which has neither a proper vehicle parking nor a waiting hall/dormitory to meet the passenger influx.
Keeping the increasing needs in view, the railway station will be expanded on a grand scale and the development is expected to be spread over 30-40 km radius around Tirupati.
The centrally air-conditioned station complex will have a cafeteria, shopping centre, hospital and a multiplex, besides an improved waiting lounge, lifts, parking lot and a vast circulatory area. Besides, separate platforms will be in place for arriving and departing trains.
Disclosing this to mediapersons here on Friday, the local MP Chinta Mohan said that the new station would have 30-40 platforms and the estimated outlay could be anywhere between Rs.1,000-Rs.2,000 crore. The entire project would take a minimum of three years to attain a tangible shape.
