KADAPA: Bedlam prevailed at the launch of Rajiv Arogyasri scheme by Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and a mega medical camp at Mydukur on Friday. The police forces failed to control the overwhelming turnout of people who stormed all the enclosures including that of officials and mediapersons.

Large number of people stormed the dais on which the Chief Minister was present and police had a tough time in pulling them away. MRPS activists and DSC 2006 candidates raised slogans at either entry points of the dais leading to cacophony. Efforts of District Collector M.T. Krishna Babu, Kurnool Range DIG K.R.M. Kishore Kumar and Kadapa SP M. M. Bhagawat to restore order proved futile.

Peeved media

Though large pandals were erected with ceiling fans fitted in them for the public meeting, part of the audience and mediapersons were peeved as the speeches of the Chief Minister and other leaders were barely audible due to failure of acoustics. None of the ceiling fans operated. General public including women trickled into the media enclosure and pandemonium prevailed coupled with the inaudible sound systems. Gradually people occupied the enclosure forcing mediapersons to make way for them and move out to spots where the speeches could be heard.

The district administration transported people to the medical camp in 200 APSRTC buses drafted for the purpose. In addition, people came in tractors and other vehicles causing traffic jams. Although 70 stalls were put up by various corporate and speciality hospitals for the mega camp, many patients complained that they went round over half a dozen stalls, but could not ascertain where their ailment would be attended upon.
