VISAKHAPATNAM: G. Varalakshmi, 22, was grievously injured on Friday when her husband G. Shivaji, in an alleged attempt to kill her slit a cut in her neck with a long blade.
According to the police, Varalakshmi, married in 2004, was unable to bear the alleged physical torture meted out to her by Shivaji in drunken state frequently and returned to her mother’s house within one month of marriage. She filed case against him in 2006.
On Friday, after the couple attended the court case, Shivaji accompanied Varalakshmi to her mother’s house at Chinnapalem in Pedagantayada Mandal and insisted her to come back with him to his house at Eluru. When she refused, he allegedly tried to slit her throat. The neighbours shifted Varalakshmi to KGH. Shivaji was arrested. Inspector Sheikh Hussein of New Port Police Station is investigating.
Three killed in accident
Three persons were killed and three others injured when a lorry hit a stationary lorry on the national highway on Friday. Gangarao, S. Ajay Kumar and N. Venkateswarlu, were repairing the lorry at Geddapalem in S. Rayavaram mandal on the national highway when another going to Tuni ran into them from behind killing them on the spot. The injured were rushed to King George Hospital for treatment. Elanachili police are investigating.
Unable to bear the pain of chronic gynaec problem, Indumati, 20, committed suicide by hanging herself on Friday afternoon at her residence while her parents were away. Gopalapatnam police Inspector M. Mahesh is investigating.
