SEZ would reduce post harvest losses, enable value addition to the produce
KARIMNAGAR: AP Markfed chairman Ponnam Prabhakar urged Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy to sanction the Kisan SEZ (special economic zone) to benefit the farming community in Karimnagar district.
Prabhakar said that he would appeal to the Chief Minister during his visit to Karimnagar district on Friday to sanction the Kisan SEZ. Explaining about the importance of Kisan SEZ in Karimnagar district, he said that the district was fast growing in the agricultural sector with the abnormal increase in the farm produce. He said that the area of cultivation would also substantially increase with the completion of ongoing irrigation projects in the district. The establishment of Kisan SEZ would reduce post harvest losses and also undertake value addition to the farmers’ produce. It would also provide agri-based technology for getting high yield, help farmers to reduce production cost and also provide marketing facilities for remunerative prices. The Kisan SEZ would also help develop animal husbandry, poultry, dairy, sericulture and fisheries along with the agriculture. The SEZ would help farmers to store their produce at cold storages and warehousing facilities. It would also help in establishment of allied industries such as food processing, mango processing, cotton ginning and so on. Above all, it would provide employment several thousands of youth directly and indirectly, he stated.
