From ramp to idiot box, Lavanya Lahiri did not take much time to set a scorching pace for herself. The pretty model-turned-actress in a short time made her presence felt with performances in serials on different channels.
The actress from Nellore who spent considerable phase of her growing up in the north made it to the small screen with Vijaychander’s ‘Dayasagar’ in Hindi for Doordarshan. Choosy to the core, she has been taking up fewer roles and with some fine performances furthering her career in a very calculated fashion. These days she is there in ‘Chakrathirtham’, the serial having a long and successful run on ETV.
Lavanya’s acting prowess was noticed in ‘Bommarillu’, the daily serial on Gemini too. In between happened ‘Edadugulu’ and now ‘Shubha Lagnam’ is getting ready for screening. The silver screen too beckoned and responding to the call she did a film with Bhanuchander.
“I was working with a publishing house when the call for camera came. I began with the ramp and presented several designer wear and then moved on to product modelling,” says Lavanya. She promoted jewellery and also had modelling stints with Bombay Dyeing and APCO.
It is not just the glamour world but the beauty is keen about social concerns also. Recently she teamed up with another artist Vijay Yadav to start ‘Anu, The Ashray’, an organisation that seeks to reach out to the underprivileged. To start with, they pooled resources and adopted two mentally challenged children to take care of their education and upkeep. “The glitter of a model and actress apart, I wish to be able to do some service to the society and help the needy,” she says.
