Rama Naidu gets Raghupathi award
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad-born evergreen actress Waheeda Rehman has been selected for the State Government’s NTR National Award for Lifetime Achievement for 2006.
The jury comprising veteran director K.B.Tilak, actress Jayasudha and A.Suryanarayana met here on Monday and finalised the award, which comprises Rs.5 lakh cash and a citation.
The ever-smiling and sensitive actress well-known for her brilliant performances in ‘Pyasa’, ‘Kagaz ke Phool’, ‘Chaudvi Ka chand’, ‘Guide’, ‘Neelkamal’, ‘Om Jai Jagdish’, ‘Water’ and recently in ‘Rang de basanti’ was born on May 14.
She acted in Telugu films ‘Jayasimha’, ‘Rojulumarayi’, ‘Bangaru kalalu’ and ‘Chukkallo Chandradu’.
The memorable song ‘Yeruvaka Sagaro..’ in which she was featured is still recalled with nostalgia.
The Government also selected producer-actor Daggubati Rama Naidu for its prestigious Raghupathi Venkaiah Award for 2006, for the meritorious services rendered by him to the Telugu film industry.
A jury comprising veteran Gummadi Venkateswara Rao, P. Sambasiva Rao and K.C. Sekharababu met here on Monday and chose the 72-year-old head of the well-known banner Suresh Productions for the honour.
Born on June 6, 1936, in Karamchedu (Prakasam district), he is a Guinness Book record-holder for making 110 films in Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali and English languages.
Besides producing films and acting in many of them, he runs a studio, a colour lab and distributes films.
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Information and Public Relations Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy and C. Parthasarathy, Managing Director, AP State Film, Television, Theatre Development Corporation Ltd congratulated both Ms Rehman and Mr. Naidu for bagging the awards.
A press release issued by the Film Development Corporation said that a function would be organised here in April to honour them, along with Nandi film award winners.
