Meet ‘Karmageddon’, the latest entrant to the city’s rock band scenario
Hyderabad: Karma-actions that define ones path in life, purpose on earth, joys and pains weaved on the path of man’s existence - this is what ‘Karmageddon’, a latest entrant to the rock band scenario of Hyderabad, is all about.
The four piece band was formed in October of 2007 with bassist Rajeev Guha, Abhinav Singh on the lead guitar, Oliver Daniel playing the drums and vocalist, Rahul Das.
With all of them in college, ideology of the band revolves around teachings from Buddhism, something that inspires Rahul to scribble down lyrics for their own compositions.
But how do they jot down lyrics keeping such deep philosophy in mind? “It is not difficult to write lyrics. In fact, all phrases are inspired by the concept of Karma and how we are becoming victims of others actions”, explains Rahul. “The words used may be a bit heavy but they are all based on spiritual ethos,” he adds. At present, Karmageddon has three compositions called ‘In the name of God’, ‘As you sow, so shall you reap’ and ‘Tapasya’. “The songs speak about the negative side of mankind. How the society is turning towards violence and hatred,” says Abhinav Singh, a third year B.Tech student and lead guitarist of the band.
“Tapasya talks about renouncing your life to obtain ‘Nirvana’ and to break free from the cycle of life and death,” adds Rajeev, bassist and a first year B.Com from Wesley Degree College. With a blend of heavy metal and a bit of Indian classical music thrown in, their compositions have a distinctive touch that comes with practice once a week at Oliver’s place.
The band has posted lyrics of ‘In the name of God’ on the popular social networking site Orkut to give audiences a feel and depth of their music. So next time you see these four young rockers take the stage, get ready for Karmageddon!!!
