Demands action against Sub-Inspector
VIZINAGARAM: A dispute between Congress and Telugu Desam workers over supply of water through a tanker at Ayyannapeta panchayat two days ago made Kolagatla Veerabhadra Swamy, ruling party MLA, to stage a dharna at the I town police station here on Saturday.
Braving the scorching sun, the MLA along with Municipal Vice-Chairman A. Suri Babu, former Chairman of Cooperative Urban Bank K. Gowri Sankar and several other Congress leaders squatted on the ground near cellar of the I town police station complex demanding action against Sub-Inspector M.V.V. Ramana Murty for taking a lenient view on the complaint of Congress cadre. The MLA called off his protest at 3.45 p.m. after K. Koteswara Rao, SDPO, assured him of action against the SI after an inquiry into the allegations was conducted in a day or two.
According to Mr. Koteswara Rao, Congress cadre seized a water tanker of Sailada Trinadh, a TDP leader and husband of mandal parishad president Sailada Annapoorna, for supplying water without valid permission of the panchayat to neighbouring Duppada panchayat and handed over to I Town police. Later, the Sub-Inspector released the water tanker on the request of Telugu Desam leaders.
The general body meeting of the Zilla Parishad on Saturday was postponed without discussing the agenda.
Chairperson B. Appala Naidu proposed a resolution condemning the death of Tentu Jayaprakash, TDP MLA from Therlam, during the interregnum period. ZPTC member and TDP district president Y. Ramana Murty said that moving a resolution in the absence of MLAs of both the parties who are busy with the Assembly session was not justified.
