Sale of Janata Bazaar likely

VIZIANAGARAM: The municipal council has approved the revised budget for 2007-08 and the estimated budget for 2008-09 projecting a surplus of Rs. 4.31 crores. Chairperson Meesala Geetha said that the revenue expected from general and capital accounts was Rs.77.84 crores, including an opening balance of Rs. 2.27 crores, and the expenditure at Rs. 73.52 crores.

Presenting the budget for approval of the council on Monday, Ms. Geetha said that the estimates were prepared on the basis of last year’s income. She said that as the revenue from Janata Bazaar was dwindling due to dilapidated condition of shops, the council would approve it for sale. Further, she said that a decision to privatise collection of advertisement tax would be taken at the next council meeting.
