Hotels organise rain dance for the revellers

VISAKHAPATNAM: Shocking pink, grasshopper green and sunshine yellow - it rained colours everywhere as people soaked themselves in the spirit of Holi with unbridled enthusiasm on Saturday. The celebrations started from Friday morning even before the ‘holika’ was lit and extended till late Saturday evening.

The mood was upbeat and the streets in the city resembled a pool of colours. While the beach road was the favourite hub of revellers, at various other spots in the city the festival of colours was celebrated with much vigour and vibrancy. Revellers played Holi with gay abandon by smearing ‘gulals’ on each other’s faces and throwing colours, while some even resorted to throwing eggs!

Annual dash of colours

At MGM Selvee Park, colours kept raining down from overhead and the music flowed in to ignite the jubilant spirits of the revellers, who came down to enjoy the ‘Rang De Basanti’ rain dance programme. Streaked, daubed, rainbow-hued with the bright coloured powders of Holi, the faces were beyond recognition as people added the annual dash of colours to their lives.

Clouds of colours went up in the air and the effervescence of Holi gleamed over the restive crowd at Senora Beach Resorts where people got drenched in the Holi colours at the rain dance event.

Energetic mix

With an energetic mix of some hip-swinging Bollywood Holi numbers and some fast beat western numbers as well, the exuberant crowd grooved in style. Neither age nor sex was a bar. They danced and celebrated the day.

The beats of music were drowned in the cacophonic chorus of voices. True to the Holi spirit, special delicacies were dished out to add flavour to the festive atmosphere.

The police were on alert at different junctions in the city and kept a vigil on the revellers.
