VIJAYAWADA: Wristwatches estimated to cost Rs. 6 lakhs were stolen from a showroom on Karl Marx Road in the early hours of Wednesday. The Suryaraopet police suspect that the crime might have been committed at around 5.30 a.m. The police said that the miscreants entered into Sri Sai Watch Company, an authorised dealer of Titan Watch Company, near Rama Mandiram by opening the shutter with a duplicate key. They switched off the security alarm arranged in the showroom. Though the guards of the security agency that arranged the alarm reached the showroom after getting an alert soon after the disconnection, they could not find anything amiss as the shutter was found locked as usual. The police suspect that one of the miscreants might have waited outside the showroom with a mobile phone and guided others who were on the job inside the showroom. Proprietor Sriramachandra Murthy, who opened the shop at around 9 a.m., found 335 wristwatches missing. He lodged a complaint with the police.
The body of a 45-year-old man was found near a showroom in Autonagar on Wednesday and the victim’s identity was yet to be known.
