Kakinada: In less than five months of Kharif marketing season that began on October 1, East Godavari district achieved an all time record by procuring 6,07,289 metric tonnes (68 percent) of rice against the target of 8,94,940 metric tonnes (MT).
The full target is most likely to be reached in just over a month whereas the season ends on September 30.
Announcing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, Joint Collector GSRKR Vijay Kumar said West Godavari and Krishna districts stood second and third positions by procuring 4,66,387 MT and 3,04,883 MT.
The targets are 8,51,118 MT and 6,78,720 MT respectively.
East Godavari district has consistently been procuring not less than six lakh metric tonnes of rice every year since the last five years.
The procurement was 7,72,570 MT in 2003-04, 6,55,049 MT (2004-05), 6,64,656 MT (2005-06), 6,87,754 MT (2006-07) and 6,07,289 MT (2007-08 till date).
Another significant achievement of the district was delivery of 15,358 MT of levy rice to the millers on December 26, 2007.
It was the highest procurement on a single day in the State’s history.
