HYDERABAD: The government has decided to install in Hyderabad a statue of Komaram Bheem, who carried a crusade in Adilabad area for Girijan’s rights during the Nizam period, as he symbolised the tribals’ self-respect and sacrifice.

Announcing this here on Thursday, Tribal Welfare Minister P. Balaraju said a sum of Rs. 10 lakh was being released for the installation of the statue from tribal sub-plan. He said an agriculture college would be set up at Chintapalli agency area in Visakhapatnam district so that tribal farmers could be familiarised with modern agriculture tools and techniques.

He said an amount of Rs. 9.3 crore had been sanctioned to take up 12 road works in Seethampet area. Besides, an additional assistance of Rs. 20,000 was sanctioned each, to complete the houses taken up under first, second and third phases of Indiramma. Proposals would be sent to the Centre seeking a scheme to improve drinking water supply in all Girijan areas.
