Governor, Chief Minister pay respects to the departed leader
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has assured that a memorial would be built for former Khairatabad MLA P. Janardhan Reddy beside P.V. Narasimha Rao Ghat on Necklace Road here.
The State Government would construct the memorial overcoming legal hurdles that prevented the work, Dr. Reddy told family members of Janardhan Reddy when they requested him to sanction the project.
The Chief Minister had a brief interaction with them at the obsequies of Janardhan Reddy at People’s Plaza on Necklace Road.
Besides the Chief Minister, his cabinet colleagues, Governor N.D. Tiwari, former Chief Ministers -- N. Janardhan Reddy and Nadendla Bhaskara Rao -- Union Ministers -- S. Jaipal Reddy and Renuka Chowdary -- and scores of MPs and MLAs attended the ceremony.
A large crowd queued up to offer tributes to the portrait and a plaster of paris bust of Janardhan Reddy which was placed on a platform. Janardhan Reddy’s son Vishnuvardhan Reddy and four daughters stood by the portrait.
The Governor affectionately embraced Vishnuvardhan Reddy and ran his hand on the latter’s face.
The crowd suddenly swelled around noon and protested at the slow movement of the queue.
Man of masses
Congress MLA M. Sashidhar Reddy pacified the agitated mob. Noted evangelist K.A. Paul offered a prayer.
Backward Classes Minister M. Mukesh and Rajya Sabha member V. Hanumantha Rao said Janardhan Reddy’s credential as a man of masses was proved by the turnout.
