One among the few industrialists from the country to figure in the list of Forbes Billionaires, it has been a long journey for G.V. Krishna Reddy, the founder chairman of the GVK Group.
A graduate from the Osmania University, Mr. Reddy had his first break when he entered into construction sector through the Nagarjunasagar project in the 1960s. His interest in infrastructure grew as he gained hands on experience at operation sites. The journey from executing contracts to owner-developer ventures was never an easy task, but Mr. Reddy is reputed for taking risks.
While he consolidated the business with formation of GVK Power and Infrastructure Limited (GVKPIL), the multi-billion dollar flagship company, looking for international opportunities now, he ventured into hospitality and biosciences. He leads one of the finest hospitality groups, the Taj GVK chain of hotels. Mr. Reddy has several firsts to his credit – first five-star hotel in Hyderabad, first private power producer. But real breakthrough was contract for the modernisation of Mumbai airport.
