Arrangements are on for the launch of the mega project – Green Visakha – for controlling pollution in the city.
Taken up with the initiative of the industry, Green Visakha is a five-year action plan for planting 40 lakh saplings all over the city, especially the worst-affected areas, including near the airport.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy will be launching the project by planting saplings at airport on his arrival from Hyderabad on Sunday afternoon. VUDA Vice-Chairman Kona Sasidhar has shouldered the task of making arrangements for the programme at the airport and monitoring the job personally.
District Collector Lav Agarval visited the site on Thursday and gave suggestions for arrangements of stage, photo exhibition, and other plans as taken up by VUDA authorities.
An area of 12 acres has been identified and cleared at the airport for plantation of 5,000 saplings with the initiative of Coromandel International.
