The polling will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m today

Arrangements are in place for election to be held to the East and West Godavari districts graduates constituency of the Legislative Council on Thursday. Polling material has been dispatched from here to various polling stations on Wednesday. Collector and Returning Officer Neetu Prasad monitored the arrangements and the dispatch of material. The polling will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in which 2.01 lakh graduate voters will cast their votes to choose their representatives from the 30 contestants. As many as 165 polling stations have been arranged in East Godavari district alone, where 1.09 lakh voters will exercise their franchise. Presiding officer, assistant presiding officer and micro observer have been deputed one each to all the booths.

Speaking to mediapersons, Ms. Neetu Prasad advised the voters to cast their votes using only violet coloured sketch pen to be given by the polling staff. She made it clear that the preferential vote must be exercised properly and the numbers must be given in the boxes given next to the names of the contestants. She said the first preferential vote must be given by the voters to make the vote valid. If the voter failed to give the first preferential vote and given other preferences, the vote would not be valid, she said.

RDO M. Venugopal Reddy said 38,604 voters in the division would exercise their franchise at 57 polling stations including 24 in Rajahmundry Urban, 6 in Ramachandrapuram and five in Rajahmundry Rural. The administration has appointed one micro observer and eight route officers to ensure the smooth conduct of the polling.
