‘Gandham’ to be observed on the night of December 29
NELLORE: Nellore Town MLA Mungamuri Sridharkrishna Reddy, Rural legislator Anam Vivekananda Reddy and Mayor N. Bhanusri reviewed the arrangements for ‘Rottela Panduga’ to be celebrated from December 28 to 31, in Nellore city.
The annual fete will be celebrated at Bara Saheed Dargah on the banks of Nellore Cheruvu and more than 3 lakh devotees are expected to participate in the festival and offer ‘mokkus’ to the God.
Ms. Bhanusri said 12 bathing ghats, toilets, drinking water taps, information centres, medical camps are being arranged and the dargah premises would be illuminated for the festival.
The municipal corporation will arrange scavengers round-the-clock for maintaining sanitation on the tank bund, she said.
Mr. Vivekananda Reddy said a committee has been constituted for organising the ‘Rottela fete’ on a grand scale. Committee president MD. Abdul Munaif and vice-president SK. Shahul will look after the arrangements for the devotees, he said.
The officials said that ‘Gandotsavam’ (applying sandal paste to the martyr’s tombs) will be done on December 29 night.

The devotees will release ‘rotis’ in the river and offer ‘mokkus’ (vows) to the God on December 30.
The ‘tahlil fateha’ (conclusion of the festival) will be done the next day, said committee vice-president Mr. Shahul. The police will make traffic diversions from December 27 in the city for the convenience of devotees.
Vehicles coming into the city on Podalkur road would be diverted at Indian Red Cross Society Hospital junction and traffic proceeding towards SP Camp office would be diverted at DKW Women’ College junction.
Parking lots are being arranged at police parade grounds and at AC Subbareddy Stadium and traffic will not be allowed near the dargah, said the police.
Later, RDO M. Venugopal Reddy, Nellore tahsildar Baktavastala Reddy and others inaugurated posters of the festival.
Municipal Commissioner T.S.R. Anjaneyulu, Wakf Board inspector SK. Ahmed, city Congress president Chatla Narasimha Rao and others were present.
