The following were the prices (per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale market on Saturday: Groundnut oil - 47.50, palmolein oil - 38.50, sunflower oil - 47, tamarind (flower variety) - 21 to 28, tamarind (Karipuli Variety) - 42 to 48, chillies (refrigerated) 25 to 27, chillies (non-refrigerated) 10 to 15, rice (2716) - 13, rice (superfine) - 15, rice (Samba Masoori) - 5 to 17, rice (Sona Masoori) - 16 to 17, black gram (Pottu Minapappu) - 34, red gram (Kandipappu) Desavali - 21, red gram (Pandiripalem) 22, red gram (Nagpur) 26.

DishTV offer

DishTV, a company offering direct-to-home service, has announced a special offer for TV viewers in Vijayawada and Guntur. Under the "Dish Freedom Package" the customers will get to view 40 satellite channels without any monthly subscription. They have to make a one-time investment of Rs. 2,690 for the digi-box.

Funds for Government

Ayurvedic College

Rs. 20 lakhs would be granted from the district administration funds for completing the new Government Ayurvedic College buildings to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 63 lakhs, district Collector Navin Mittal said. The Collector reviewed the progress in construction of the building. The Central Government released Rs. 50 lakhs only for the building.

Sericulture convention

The Regional Sericulture Research Centre, Anantapur, will conduct a sericulture convention at Hanuman Junction near here on January 24. Central Silk Council chairman H. Hanumanthappa will participate in the convention.
