Signature campaignKrishna district Collector Navin Mittal on Sunday said that the district stood top in terms of registering cases against employers who engaged child labourers. He inaugurated a signature campaign against child labour to mark the World Day Against Child Labour at Swaraj Maidan here. Besides launching awareness campaigns against child labour, the administration was also opening special schools and hostels for children who were rescued from work, he said.

Rally against fuel price hikeActivists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) on Sunday took out a rally from Sundarayya Bhavan to Raghavayya Park to protest against the petrol price hike. They burnt the effigy of `petrol prices' at the park. City secretary of the DYFI P. Sankar said the price reduction announced by the Government, 40 paise per litre, was just eyewash. He demanded the Government should rollback the price hike.

Activists of the Communist Party of India (CPI) decided to launch a massive agitation in the city on June 13 to register their protest against the recent hike in oil prices. Activists of the CPI(M) will also join the agitation.

Student's death: memo submittedCommittee Against Superwhizz's Sadist Activities, which was formed by members of a few like-minded organisations after the death of a student of city-based Superwhizz Academy, has submitted a memorandum to S. Challappa, secretary of State Human Rights Commission. The committee charged the management of the academy with humiliating the relatives of the deceased student and urged the commission to take action against the management.
