The Indian Army is organising a recruitment rally at the Sports Authority of India (SAI)’s outdoor stadium in Kurnool from October 17 to 25 for candidates belonging to seven districts (Anantapur, Chittoor, Guntur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Nellore and Prakasam) under the aegis of Chennai Recruitment Zone.

Director of Recruiting (Guntur) Col. A.A. Jafri has written to the Collectors of these districts seeking necessary arrangements to be made. He told The Hindu that there were about 800 vacancies of soldiers (general duty, technical and nursing assistant, clerical, store keeping, tradesmen and technical aviation) for which the rally is being held.

Candidates who undertook Andhra Pradesh Open School Society examinations for Class X have been declared eligible to participate in the rally from this year for the soldier general duty posts. Hitherto, only those who took the regular SSC examinations were allowed.

For soldier technical aviation posts, candidates possessing three-year diplomas in engineering (mechanical, electrical, automobile, computer science and electronic and instrumentation) are also eligible. Only 10+2/Intermediate (MPC) candidates used to be permitted to appear in the recruitment process.

The seven districts that fall in the jurisdiction of Guntur ARO contribute nearly 6.25 per cent of ‘persons below officer rank’ working in the Army.

The RMP in these districts is 16.99 per cent as per the latest census with Guntur standing on top with 3.16 per cent followed by Chittoor (2.68 per cent, Anantapur (2.65 per cent), Kurnool (2.54 per cent), Prakasam (2.20 per cent), Nellore (1.91 per cent) and Kadapa (1.85 per cent).
