Leaders of political parties in the Opposition, along with those in the Government, should ensure the appointment of adequate number of commissioners for the benefit of the commoner, Samachara Hakku Praja Aikya Vedika (SHPAV) has appealed to the three-member committee.

“The past five years has shown that appeals made under the Right to Information Act have been neglected at the officials' level,” said the SHPAV convenor Putta Surendrababu in a letter released to the media.

The neglect was mainly due to the lack of enough number of commissioners, which had led to the appeals getting piled up in the Information Commissioner's office for years,” he added.

He also demanded that larger amounts be granted for improving awareness on the RTI among people as provided under Section 26 of the Act.
