HYDERABAD: The new airport in Shamshabad, added another feather in its cap when a massive aircraft, Antonov (An-124) weighing nearly 1.75 lakh kg landed here in the early hours of Friday.
The Russian-made aircraft, one of the largest cargo carriers in the world arrived from Karachi and landed at 2.10 a.m. The An-124 was the largest mass-produced aircraft until the advent of Airbus A-380 and is similar to the American Lockheed C-5 Galaxy. The aircraft is generally used for transporting locomotives, yachts, aircraft fuselages and a variety of oversized cargoes. The aircraft measures 69.1 metres in length and 20.78 metres in height.
