Antique idols of Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Lakshminarayana were found in an agricultural field belonging to M. Sambaiah at Puttakota near the historic fort here on Friday. The idols were found at a depth of five feet when the field was being dug by an earth-mover. Kondaveedu Fort Development Committee convener K. Siva Reddy, who was informed of the discovery, took it to the notice of the State Archaeology Department.

He stated in a press release that the idols dated back to 15th century and were, by and large, in a good shape. Mr. Siva Reddy requested the State Archaeology Department to explore the area around the Kondaveedu fort to find more such hidden antiquities.

The fort and its surrounding area is a treasure trove containing ruins of the impressive constructions of Reddy Kings.
