VISAKHAPATNAM: Magsaysay awardee Medha Patkar will take part in an anti-coastal corridor meeting in the city on May 3. Along with the Narmada Bachao Andolan activist, former IAS officer B.D. Sharma and Human Rights Forum general secretary K. Balagopal will speak.

The meeting is being conducted by Coastal Corridor Nirmana Vyatirekha Porata Committee.

Addressing a press conference on the conclusion of eight-day ‘jagruti jatha’ taken out from Barua in Srikakulam to Srirampuram in U.Kothapalli mandal of East Godavari, committee members said on Monday that they would intensify their stir against coastal corridor.

The first phase of coastal corridor proposed between Bhimili and Kakinada will involve acquisition of 1.5 lakh acres spreading over 672 square km.

During the jatha, 54 villages in 23 mandals were covered.

Srirampuram where the eight-day jatha concluded is witnessing stiff resistance from the locals to the proposed Kakinada Special Economic Zone.
