TIRUMALA: Annamayya Vardhanthi kicks off to a colourful start. Pomp and pageantry marked the 504th Vardhanthi of the saint poet Tallapaka Annamacharya at the famous hill temple of Lord Venkateswara, Tirumala. As part of celebrations, the processional deities of Lord Malayappa flanked by his two divine consorts -- Sri devi and Bhoo devi -- were brought out in a procession to the venue, the Narayanagiri gardens. The 45th pontiff of Sri Ahobila Mutt Srivan Sathakopa Narayana Mahadesikan, who graced the occasion traced the relationship between the two religious institutions and recalled the services of the saint poet . Given the popularity of the kritis of Annamayya, efforts are on to compose them in Tamil. The pontiff expressed his blessings to the TTD management for coming forward with the idea of erecting a permanent structure at the venue .
