Law and order well under control: SP

With Nellore Rural MLA Anam Vivekananda Reddy openly criticising the police functioning in Nellore district, the standoff between the Anam group and DGP V. Dinesh Reddy has come into sharp focus here once again.

The MLA went to the extent of saying that no effective action was being taken though murders and robberies were being committed. He had made similar comments in the past. But the DGP, during one of his visits, appreciated the district police.

Following the latest outburst of the MLA, Nellore Urban Deputy Superintendent of Police P. Venkatanadha Reddy asserted that the law and order was well under control and immediate detections were made in several murders committed recently.

Mr. Vivekananda Reddy, who returned to Nellore a few days ago after receiving treatment for his ill health in Hyderabad, started coming out to take part in public activities. The other day, he addressed a meeting at the Municipal Corporation where he warned officials of serious action if they were found lax in functioning.

Later, the MLA directed his ire at the traffic police, saying that they were harassing vehicle users by slapping fines on them. He criticised the police for showing interest in punishing road users rather than streamlining the traffic. He also passed sweeping comments on the law and order situation, saying that the crime incidents had gone up.

As the MLA commented on the police in front of the public, the officials had to bear it all silently. At a press conference here on Thursday, DSP Venkatanadha Reddy asserted that there was no problem with law and order situation.

The DSP said that persons involved in all the murders committed recently had been arrested, including that of an MBBS student and her mother at Haranathapuram in Nellore city.
