Rajahmundry: BJP all-India secretary Bandaru Dattatreya has described the floods in the Konaseema area and related relief works as an "administrative calamity.''

Speaking to reporters in Nagaram on Tuesday after visiting flood-hit areas of Konaseema, he said relief works taken up by the district administration were going on at snail's pace and people had been starving for the last three days.

"I have seen with my eyes children crying for milk and aged people for food. Our party workers are supplying these materials as much as they can.

It is a pity that the government has utterly failed in reaching flood victims," Mr. Dattatreya alleged.

He said Mummidivaram, Razole, P. Gannavaram were most affected in the floods. Things would not have come to such a pass had irrigation officials taken precautionary measures such as strengthening floodbanks.

He asked the government to supply ration to vegetable farmers for three months and kerosene to the poor as there is no power supply. BJP leaders Akula Veerraju and K. Sarvarayudu accompanied Mr. Dattatreya.
