In order to encourage institutional deliveries in the government hospitals and Primary Health Centres, the District Medical and Health Department has decided to conduct a week-long celebrations as part of “Amma Lalana” (Mother's Nurture) programme from February 22 to 29.
In a press release here on Monday, DM&HO Nageswara Rao said that during the week-long programme the medical authorities would educate the pregnant women about the importance of delivering in the government hospital for the health of mother and child and also availing benefits of financial assistance of Rs. 700 per delivery under the JSSY programme.
Under the Amma Lalana programme, already the medical department had been issuing SMS alerts to the pregnant women about when they should approach hospital for regular check-up and treatment.
They had already enrolled details about the pregnant women in all Primary Health Centres.
They were also educating them about free transportation from their village to hospital for delivery and food for the patient and her attendant.
The DMHO said that they had instructed the medical personnel to ensure that at least one delivery was taken up in each PHC during this week and also enroll the pregnant women for the delivery.
