There are many who have enrolled but are yet to get cards

The claim of the district administration with regard to generation of Aadhaar card seems to be different from ground realities. Ambiguity over the generation, distribution and linkage of Aadhaar number with other schemes is continuing in the district.

East Godavari is one of the five districts which were identified for Aadhaar project in the country. According to Joint Collector Ahmed Babu, who pioneered the project, they have enrolled 51.12 lakh people out of 51. 51 lakh (according to 2011 census) and there are only 39,407 people left over in the district. He said they had installed 70 enrolment kits in 25 permanent Aadhaar centres in the district for enrolling left-over cases.

However, the situation at ground level is different. Hundreds of people are daily complaining to local Tahasildars, Revenue Divisional Officers and Civil Supply officials of non-receipt of Aadhaar letters. Long queue lines are seen in front of Aadhaar permanent centres for enrolment. There are hundreds of cases who got enrolment identification number (EID) but Aadhaar letters (that is UID) were not received. There are cases where names and addresses were not printed properly on Aadhaar letter.

“My case is different. I enrolled along with my family members in July. Every one of my family got Aadhaar letters. But I have not receive any communication. I was told to reenrol as my details are not found in the computer,” said K.P. Rajeswar, a bank employee.

In Rajahmundry Division there are 207 villages in 14 mandals where there 20 per cent villagers have not enrolled for Aadhaar on various accounts.

Amalapuram, Peddapuram and Rampachodavaram have done only 85 per cent enrolment.

When contacted, the Joint Collector said if any one did not get UID even after one month of registration, they could get it through internet by clicking http://eaadhar.uidai.gov.in/ and enter EID number given at the time of enrolment.

He said he asked LPG dealers to accept EID numbers and check UID status in their office computers and enter the same for linkage. Also, one could any time correct or update the data by using the option.
