Srikakulam: Logo of the recently-established Ambedkar University at Etcherla Highway was formally released by Vice-Chancellor S.V. Sudhakar and Registrar G. Gnanamani at a press conference here on Tuesday.

The Vice-Chancellor said that entries were called from the general public on the preparation of the logo and 35 persons responded.

Of all the logos, the one suggested by S. Ramanjaneyulu was adjudged the best.

A committee, headed by Prof. Kaladhar with Prof. M. Krishna Murthy as a member, called for the designing of logo for the university.

The monitoring and development committee finally zeroed in on the one designed by Mr. Ramanjaneyulu.

The Registrar stated that a detailed project report was submitted to the University Grants Commission (UGC). Under the newly-formulated scheme of the UGC, the university would get funds for construction of administrative office buildings, hostel accommodation, sports stadium and an examination centre.

The State government would provide matching grant to the university.

A centre for tribal studies and research and a centre for rural extension services was being contemplated for inclusion in the 11th five-year plan.
