The CBCID police from Chennai on Wednesday once again created a flutter at the residential localities in Puttur, as they had brought the Al-Umma militant, Panna Ismail, along with them as part of investigation.

The militant was nabbed at a house at Gate Puttur locality on October 5, along with another militant Bilal Malik after a 12-hour Puttur Operation. Then, he received a bullet injury in the abdomen while resisting the TN police. The injured youth was rushed to Chennai. Later, the Chennai and Salem teams visited Puttur on four occasions, twice with Bilal Malik, recording his versions and inquiring with the public. It is for the first time that Panna Ismail was brought here, after he recuperated from the bullet injury. The CBCID team was led by senior woman officer Nagajyothy from Chennai. The DSPs Venkata Raman, Nadivannan, Shankar and Kumar accompanied her along with armed guards.

The team spent about 2 hours at Gate Puttur and Medhara Street in the town, visiting the militant's hideouts. Unlike the public going panicky during their earlier visits, this time the residents remained calm and even surged ahead to have a look at the masked militant.
