Prohibition and Excise officials on Wednesday seized Alprazolam, a psychotropic substance used to adulterate toddy causing drowsiness to consumers, weighing 20.55 kg after raiding two houses in the city.
B. Punyavathi, wife of B. Ramachandraiah, from whose house in HUDA Colony of Asifnagar 19.65 kg. of Alprazolam was seized, has been arrested.
Ramachandraiah's son's house in Bhanunagar Colony of Champapet was also raided and 900 grams of the psychotropic substance was seized from there.
The father and son are still at large. A case under the Narcotic Drug Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, was registered.
If convicted, the accused would be sentenced to imprisonment of 10 to 20 years and imposed with a fine of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh under the Act.
