Activists owing allegiance to the Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham (TGBKS), the recognised trade union of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), staged a hunger strike in front of the SCCL’s head office in Kothagudem on Friday demanding allotment of iron ore mines in Bayyaram to the SCCL.

Addressing the protesters, the TGBKS secretary Kanaka Raj said the State-owned SCCL has over 100 years of proven track record and expertise in coal mining. The company has more than 1,000 well qualified mining engineers, he said asserting that the SCCL has the requisite competence to take up iron ore mining. “The government should revoke its controversial order and allot it to SCCL”, he said.
