The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is gearing up to celebrate the 605th birth anniversary of saint-poet Tallapaka Annamacharya in a grand manner in his native place Tallapaka (near Rajampet in Kadapa district) from May 24 to 26.
The 15th century poet has composed over 32,000 ‘kritis’ in praise of Lord Venkateswara and as a befitting tribute, the TTD has been celebrating his birth and death anniversaries in the form of music concerts for the last eight years at Tallapaka as well as at a couple of locations in Tirupati.
A ‘Nadaswara Sammelan’ will be held at Tallapaka ‘Dhyana Mandir’ on 24, followed by ‘Sapthagiri Sankeertana Goshti Ganam’. Kalyanotsavam, the celestial wedding of Lord Venkateswara will be performed later, followed by devotional, cultural and bhajan programmes on the other two days. The TTD has also roped in two APSRTC buses to carry pilgrims free of cost from Rajampet and other surrounding villages to Tallapaka for the occasion.
Similarly, the 283rd birth anniversary of Tarigonda Vengamamba will be celebrated on May 24 and 25 at Tirumala, Tirupati and also her native village Tarigonda (near Vayalpadu in Chittoor district). A celestial bath (Snapana Tirumanjanam) will be given to the deity at Sri Lakshmi Narasimha temple in Tarigonda, followed by spiritual lectures, Harikatha, music concert and a puppet show. The statue of the poetess installed at Tirupati West junction will be garlanded on the day, while music and dance programmes will be held at Annamacharya Kalamandiram.
