Congress representative conspicuous by absence
NALGONDA: All mainstream political parties, barring the Congress, have pledged to fight the State Government's decision to increase the capacity of Pothireddipadu head regulator.
Participating in a debate organised by the Nalgonda Press Club at the Zilla Parishad Meeting Hall on Monday, Nomula Narasimhaiah of CPI (M), Palla Venkat Reddy of CPI, Gutta Sukhender Reddy of TDP and Oruganti Ramulu of BJP categorically demanded that the Government give priority to Nagarjunasagar ayacut before taking any decision on the sharing of Krishna water.
Congress representative and Ramannapet MLA V. Purushottam Reddy was conspicuous by his absence. The organisers said he could not attend the debate owing to a party assignment related to the AICC plenary.
Earlier, former member of the Central Water Commission (CWC) R. Vidyasagar Rao lambasted the Government's decision and called upon all political parties to fight the relevant G.O. to protect the interests of the drought-hit Nalgonda district.
Explaining to the gathering the Pothireddipadu issue through PowerPoint presentation, Mr. Rao alleged that the Government lacked clarity on irrigation.
The leaders decided to mobilise public support to exert pressure on the Government against the Pothireddipadu project. The newly-elected president of the Press Club, Srigiri Vijayakumar Reddy, presided over the meet.
