MIM MLA, Akbaruddin Owaisi, was discharged on Friday from Care Hospital in Banjara Hills, where he underwent treatment for the past 19 days after being shot at and attacked with knives by rivals here in Old City.
The MLA was brought out in a wheel chair till the hospital entrance around 1.20 p.m. Later, he walked a few yards to get into the car. His elder brother, Asaduddin Owaisi, former minister Shabbir Ali, and close confidants accompanied him.
The Punjagutta police made security arrangements at the hospital anticipating heavy crowds but not many were present, as the time of discharge was kept a secret till the last minute.
The MLA was attacked by his rivals on April 30 at Barkas in his constituency of Chandrayanagutta. He sustained two bullet wounds and multiple knife injuries, and was rushed to Care Hospital after initial treatment at Owaisi Hospital in Santoshnagar.
As his condition was critical for the first three days, he was put on ventilator support.
Police arrested 12 persons in the case so far and recovered two firearms from the accused, including a licensed one. Statement of the MLA was yet to be recorded.
