Justice Ramesh Ranganathan of A.P. High Court on Wednesday directed the government to file a counter affidavit in the writ petition filed by Akbaruddin Owasi who is facing criminal charges on the allegations that he delivered hate speech. The case will be listed for February 27.

In his writ petition, the MIM MLA complained against a plethora of cases being filed against him. He sought interim direction to the police not to register any more cases. He apprehended that the Osmania University police were likely to precipitate the matter.

The government pleader said when courts order registration of cases the police have to abide by and cannot refuse. The judge wanted the government pleader to place all the facts before the court regarding FIRs registered and the present status of each.
